Where Wilson stands

Role of the auditor's office
Argues the auditor should take a proactive approach and flag policies that could put the state in the red before problems occur, rather than only reviewing after the fact.
State budget and taxes
Says Missouri's budget gap is caused by both spending problems and revenue giveaways, and that tax cuts combined with overspending must be addressed.
Working with the legislature
Says he wants to be a partner to legislators, not an adversary, in dealing with the coming budget gap, and wants the parties to work together to improve Missouri's fiscal standing.
Independent oversight
Argues that an auditor from outside the majority party gives independent review of state government, saying a single party cannot police itself.
Office resources
Proposes an 'insight, oversight, foresight' approach and says the auditor's office can be strengthened without more money.
