Jon Ossoff
Democratic candidate for United States Senate, Georgia · Incumbent
U.S. Senator from Georgia (incumbent); former CEO of an investigative documentary production company
Jon Ossoff is an Atlanta Democrat who was elected to the U.S. Senate in early 2021, alongside Sen. Raphael Warnock. He once interned for Congressman John Lewis and later ran an investigative media production company. He is running for a second term in the November 3, 2026 general election against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins and Libertarian Allen Buckley.
Where Ossoff stands
- Economy/Affordability
- Says high costs come from corruption in government and money in politics. Argues that the Iran war, Trump's import tariffs and letting Affordable Care Act subsidies expire have raised costs for Georgians.
- Tariffs
- Has questioned Collins in debates over Collins's support for President Trump's tariffs, which Ossoff has made a main focus of his campaign.
- Healthcare
- Sponsored a bill to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits and voted against Medicaid funding cuts. Proposed an amendment to stop insurers from denying or delaying needed care.
- Prescription drug costs
- Points to his role in passing the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act provision that capped insulin at $35 a month for people on Medicare.
- Immigration
- Voted for the Laken Riley Act and says he supports a more humane approach to border security. Calls for reform and oversight of ICE tactics, and cosponsored a bill requiring local approval before ICE detention facilities are built or expanded.
- ICE detention oversight
- His office investigated conditions in ICE detention. He says it found more than 1,000 credible allegations of abuse, including inadequate nutrition and sexual abuse.
- Iran war
- Opposes the U.S. war in Iran, saying it was launched without evidence of an imminent threat, without clear objectives and before diplomacy was exhausted. His campaign cites six votes he cast for war powers resolutions.
- Abortion
- Says Georgia's six-week abortion ban takes away women's autonomy and puts their health at risk. Sponsored a bill to prohibit government restrictions on abortion.
- Minimum wage
- In 2021, sponsored a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 over five years.
- Israel/Gaza
- Says Israeli forces violated the law of armed conflict and international humanitarian law in Gaza. Says whether genocide occurred is for the International Criminal Court to decide.
