Mark R. Warner

Democratic candidate for Member, United States Senate, Virginia · Incumbent

U.S. Senator from Virginia

Mark R. Warner is the Democratic incumbent U.S. senator from Virginia. He announced on December 2, 2025 that he would run for another term, naming affordability, health care and artificial intelligence as his main priorities. He faces Republican Bert Mizusawa, a retired Army major general, in the November 3, 2026 general election.

Where Warner stands

Cost of living / inflation
Says the election is mainly about inflation. Argues that ending the war with Iran and reversing current tariff policies would bring down gas, fuel and grocery prices right away.
Iran war / foreign policy
Calls for ending what he calls a 'war of choice' with Iran. Says President Trump should have brought allies along, and supports Saudi Arabia and other countries moving more oil by pipeline instead of through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trade / tariffs
Opposes the current tariff policies, which he says raise costs and have strained relations with Canada, a major trading partner for Virginia, and with other allies.
Data centers
Proposes a minimum federal standard for data centers: they would supply their own clean power, keep setbacks from communities and not use nondisclosure agreements. Centers that miss the standard would lose bonus tax depreciation.
Artificial intelligence and jobs
Says he supports AI over the long term but is concerned about workers losing jobs to it. Argues that the largest AI companies should help pay for workforce transition.
Health care
His campaign says lowering health care costs is a central campaign message. A local news headline says he has called for universal health coverage.
Debates
Did not commit to the AARP 'People's Debate,' which was then canceled. His campaign cited an unsettled and busy Senate calendar.
